Title:  Senior Structures Inspector

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Structures Inspector to join our SBIM team based at Avonmouth Bridge. In this role, you will play a key part in delivering the annual structures inspection programme, ensuring inspections and associated reporting are completed safely, efficiently and in line with relevant technical standards.

You will work across a range of highway structures, supporting the safe operation and long-term maintenance of critical infrastructure assets while mentoring junior team members and contributing to the continuous improvement of inspection activities.

The Role

As a Senior Structures Inspector, you will:

• Deliver inspection activities in accordance with client requirements, technical standards and agreed programmes.
• Undertake General, Principal, Special and Monitoring inspections of structures.
• Carry out site visits, inspections and condition surveys.
• Produce and review technical reports, inspection records and supporting documentation.
• Work with minimal supervision while supporting and checking the work of junior team members.
• Assist the Inspection Manager with developing training and competency programmes.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and third-party stakeholders.
• Support future inspection planning and programme development.
• Assist with bid submissions and wider contract delivery activities when required.
• Ensure all activities are carried out in compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements.
• Record plant, labour and materials using digital systems.
• Undertake basic non-destructive testing and inspection techniques.
• Support and mentor apprentices, taking an active role in their development.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, guidance and best practice.

What You'll Bring

Essential

• Experience carrying out inspections of civil engineering structures.
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and engineering details.
• Good knowledge of current inspection methods, testing techniques and industry standards.
• Understanding of structural materials including steel and concrete.
• Ability to work independently and supervise others when required.
• Strong report-writing and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

• HNC/HND in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering.
• Bridge Inspection Certification Scheme (BICS) qualification or working towards accreditation.
• CSWIP 3.0 Visual Weld Inspector or CSWIP 3.1 Weld Inspector certification.
• PCN Level 2 Magnetic Particle Inspection certification.
• IPAF 1b Static Boom certification.
